North Africa, SW and Central Asia

Learning Objectives: Students will demonstrate knowledge of Africa's geography, ancient history and more recent colonization history and research features and challenges (GNP, AIDS prevalence, etc.) for one of the poorer nations  on the UN's HDI.

Social Studies Perspectives via the Great Depression

Learning Objectives: This unit is designed to be an introductory unit to the study of the social sciences. The primary goal of this unit is to introduce students to the various subspecialities within the Social Sciences; specifically. to view each lesson's topic from the perspective of an historian, a geographer, a political scientist and an economist. Students will be introduced to each perspective and its associated skills within the context of studying the Great Depression. It is intended that this format may be used with any topical content at the teachers discretion.

Industrialization and Urbanization

Learning Objectives: Understand how innovation in industry and transportation created the factory system that led to the Industrial Revolution and transformed capitalism. Understand what life was like for industrial workers and immigrants in the cities, how life changed because of industrialization.
